MissC: Implementation

MissC has been implemented using a variety of technologies:
  • HTML
  • JavaScript (within HTML and VRML)
  • LiveConnect (for browser/applet communication)
  • Java (Applets, TCP network programming, threads)
  • VRML (for 3D models and animations)
  • External Authoring Interface (for Java/VRML communication)
We used the latest releases of these technologies, i.e. as of April 1998 JDK 1.1.4, VRML97 and HTML 3.x. As a result only the latest releases of the web browser and 3D Plugin are supported (Netscape 4.0.x and Cosmo Player 2.0 and greater). MissC is a simple example of a shared, virtual world. Each visitor can interact with the objects in the world, but the visitor himself is not represented in the world.
