The thesis is written in English with a German summary. The original dvi and PostScript files are lost. Hence, LaTeX had to be run again. The resulting layout slightly differs from the original one, in particular w.r.t. page breaking.

The thesis now has 293 pages, numbered i-viii and 1-285. For your convenience, it is available as one huge compressed PostScript file, or as a collection of smaller pieces. Note that some of the pieces end with a blank page containing nothing but a page number.
